notion-health-day-board

Use the board as a desktop widget: Linux

Other systems: Windows Mac

These steps open the board in its own small window with a Chromium-based browser, add it to your app menu, start it at login, and keep it on top. They work on most desktops, such as GNOME (Ubuntu, Fedora), KDE Plasma and Xfce.

Time: about 10 minutes.

You need

Step 1. Test the app window

Open a terminal and run the line for your browser, with your own board link:

Browser Command
Google Chrome google-chrome --app=YOUR-BOARD-ARTIFACT-URL
Chromium chromium --app=YOUR-BOARD-ARTIFACT-URL (on some systems chromium-browser)
Microsoft Edge microsoft-edge --app=YOUR-BOARD-ARTIFACT-URL
Brave brave-browser --app=YOUR-BOARD-ARTIFACT-URL
Chrome from Flatpak flatpak run com.google.Chrome --app=YOUR-BOARD-ARTIFACT-URL

The board opens in its own window, with no tabs and no address bar. Sign in to claude.ai if asked. Keep the command that worked: you need it in Step 2.

Step 2. Add it to your app menu

  1. Make a new text file at ~/.local/share/applications/day-board.desktop.
  2. Paste this into it. Replace the Exec line with the command that worked in Step 1.

    [Desktop Entry]
    Type=Application
    Name=Day board
    Comment=Tasks, focus, wellbeing and health
    Exec=google-chrome --app=YOUR-BOARD-ARTIFACT-URL
    Icon=web-browser
    Terminal=false
    Categories=Utility;

  3. Save the file.

Or do it in one go in a terminal (change the Exec line first):

mkdir -p ~/.local/share/applications
cat > ~/.local/share/applications/day-board.desktop <<'EOF'
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Day board
Comment=Tasks, focus, wellbeing and health
Exec=google-chrome --app=YOUR-BOARD-ARTIFACT-URL
Icon=web-browser
Terminal=false
Categories=Utility;
EOF

Day board now shows in your app menu or app grid. If it does not show at once, log out and in again.

Step 3. Make it small and dock it

  1. Open Day board from the app menu.
  2. Snap it to the right: Super + Right arrow on GNOME, Meta + Right arrow on KDE.
  3. Drag the left edge until the window is about as wide as a phone.

Step 4. Keep it on top (optional)

Desktop How
GNOME Right-click the window’s title bar, or press Alt + Space, and choose Always on Top.
KDE Plasma Press Alt + F3, then More Actions, then Keep Above Others.
Xfce Right-click the title bar and choose Always on Top.

Step 5. Start it at login

Copy the file into your autostart folder:

mkdir -p ~/.config/autostart
cp ~/.local/share/applications/day-board.desktop ~/.config/autostart/

On GNOME you can also use Startup Applications (or GNOME Tweaks), and on KDE System Settings, Autostart.

Step 6. Pin it to your dock or panel

With the board open, right-click its icon:

Updates

The board link never changes. When the board is updated, the same window shows the new version. Close the window and open it again to load it.

Notifications

The board cannot send desktop notifications itself. The daily messages are Claude scheduled tasks. They arrive as push notifications in the Claude app, and can also be sent by email.

If it does not work

You see Fix
“command not found” Your browser has a different command name. Try the others in Step 1, or run which google-chrome chromium chromium-browser microsoft-edge brave-browser.
Day board is not in the app menu Check the file is in ~/.local/share/applications/ and ends in .desktop. Log out and in again.
It opens as a normal browser tab Check the Exec line has --app= right before the link, with no space after the =.
The board asks you to sign in every time Sign in once in the normal browser window with the same browser profile.
No Always on Top in the menu Some desktops hide it. Search your desktop’s settings for “keep above” or “always on top”.
